The film will tell the fascinating, forgotten story of a seemingly impossible true life hero, Walter Tull, a professional footballer for Tottenham Hotspur and Northampton Town. At Northampton Town he played 110 first team matches and by 1914 was the most popular player in the team having scored over 50 goals. He went on to become one of this country’s heroes during the First World War, working his way up through the ranks from volunteer to officer. After leading a raiding party into enemy territory across the Front Line in Italy he was recommended for a Military Cross because of his heroism in not losing a single man from his Company while coming under heavy fire. Having fought in the first Battle of the Somme, it was in the second, in March 1918, that he was tragically killed as the war staggered to a close, his men braving shell and machine-gun fire trying to rescue his body from the battlefield.
These incredible achievements, on their own, make him a boy's own British hero. More to come - if this is true lets campaign to get him a posthumous Military Cross.
